ST. GEORGE, Utah - Freshman Kim Welch posted her third consecutive top-10 effort - and sixth this season - with an eighth place finish at the BYU/Dixie Classic at the par-72, 5,734 yard Sunbrook Golf Course, Tuesday.

Welch - who was named Golfworld's Player of the Week for its April 5 issue by virtue of her victory at the Duck Invitational, March 29 - completed the 54-hole tournament at 224 (+8), tying for eighth with BYU's Natalie Newren.

Welch led a contingent of three Cougars that finished in the top-20. Freshman Jay-Lee Longbottom tied for 13th (228, +12) and senior Tasha Browner tied for 19th at 231 (+15).

As a team, the Cougars posted a score of 923 to finish seventh in the 20-team field, one stroke behind Colorado for sixth position. WSU finished ahead of Colorado State, Nevada and San Diego State, teams that are all in front of the Cougars in the Golfstat rankings.

The Cougars return to the course, April 13-14, at the Peg Barnard Collegiate at Stanford, Calif.
