PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State junior Anastasia Kostina was named the women's collegiate Player of the Week in Golfweek's Oct. 23 issue.
Kostina was honored with the selection based on her Oct. 17 victory at the Stanford Intercollegiate with a 205 (-5). She won the tournament by two strokes over Golfstat's No. 2 ranked Louise Stahle of Arizona State. Shooting 68-68-69, Kostina was the only player in the field to fire three rounds under-par.
In five tournaments this season, Kostina never finished lower than eighth. She began the season with a sixth place finish at the Notre Dame Invitational. She then went on to finish eighth at the NCAA Fall Preview, third at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational, and first at the Stanford Intercollegiate.
Following the fall season for Washington State, Kostina represented her home country of Russia in the Women's World Amateur Team Championships. She finished eighth in the four-round tournament with a 287 (-1).
Senior Ben Bryson was also highlighted in the Oct. 23 issue of Golfweek as an Honor Roll member. Bryson won the Oct. 12 Boise State Bronco Round-Up and led the Cougars to the team title. Bryson shot 204 (-9) for the tournament including a career-low 7-under 65.
