SANTA CLARITA, Calif. - The Washington State women's golf team is in 12th after two rounds of the Bruin Classic at the Par-72, 6,270 yard Robinson Ranch Golf Course at Santa Clarita, Calif., Tuesday.

Kim Welch (74-80, +10) is in a tie for 21st to lead the Cougars, and sits in position to get her eighth Top 25 finish of the season. Welch is followed by a tie for 30th by Maria Kostina (76-80, +12) and Jay-Lee Longbottom (75-81, +12), a tie for 77th by Katharine Dorris (85-83, +24), and finally a tie for 95th by Stephanie Parsley (88-88, +32).

Washington State shot a second round score of 324, falling to 12th place, but staying within striking distance of perennial Pac-10 powers UCLA, Stanford, and Washington. Southern California leads after two rounds at 28-over (604).

The squad continues to fight against a very competitive 20-team field that Head Coach Walt Williams says, "Will help determine who gets into Regional competition, and who doesn't."

The Cougars look to build on their second round finish tomorrow in the final round of the 2003 Bruin Classic starting at 8:30 in the morning.
