KANEAHE, Hawaii - Washington State senior Tasha Browner and freshman Kim Welch tied for eighth at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Rainbow Wahine Invitational at the par-72, 5,829 yard Kaneohe Klipper Golf Course, Wednesday.

As a team, the Cougars finished in sixth place with a score of 949, three shots behind fifth place Kent State, which is ranked No. 31 in this week's Golfstat poll. WSU completed the event 14 shots ahead of seventh place Princeton.

In addition, the Cougars, who are ranked No. 97 in the nation by Golfstat, bettered three teams ahead of them in the Golfstat rankings (No. 72 Texas El Paso, No. 84 Portland, and No. 92 Princeton). Oklahoma State captured the team title with a score of 908.

Browner and Welch finished the event at 230 (+14), eight shots behind tournament champion Emma Zackrisson of Oklahoma State. Entering the final round in a tie for 20th, Welch secured her top-10 placing by firing a tournament-low 71 over the closing 18 holes. It was Welch's fourth top-10 effort this season.

Tied for 11th heading into the final 18 holes, Browner carded a final round 74 to break into the top-10 for her school record 11th time.

Freshman Jay-Lee Longbottom completed the tournament in a tie for 31st at 241. Junior Donna Bell and sophomore Jackie Stevens finished in 54th and 56th place, respectively.

The Cougars return to the links, March 28-29, at the Duck Invitational at Lebanon, Ore.
