What's Happening This Week: WSU women's golf will face the other nine teams of the Pac-10, in addition to the rest of the field, in the last competition of the fall at the Pepsi Invitational at Stanford, Calif....Stanford will host the event at the Par-73, 5,903 yard Stanford Golf Course...Tee times will be 8 a.m. Friday, Oct. 19, and Saturday, Oct. 20, and 8:30 a.m. for the final round Saturday, Oct. 22...
Field: The 18-team field will consist of Texas Tech, California, Oregon State, New Mexico, Arizona State, Washington, Oregon, New Mexico State, Washington State, Arizona, Stanford, UCLA, San Jose State, Tulsa, Southern California, Vanderbilt, Georgia, and Texas A&M.
Last Week at the Heather Farr Memorial Invitational: Kim Welch fired a 71 in the final round Tuesday to finish fifth at the Heather Farr Memorial at the Par 72, 6,158 yard Omni Interlock Golf Course at Broomfield, Colo. Welch moved up 13 spots on the leader board for her ninth Top 10 finish in her young career at WSU and is now just two Top 10 finishes away from tying Tasha Browner's career leading mark of 12. As a squad, the Cougars finished in seventh place. Stephanie Parsley moved up 22 spots from the end of the first day and finished in a tie for 27th. Jay-Lee Longbottom finished tied for 35th, Donna Bell tied for 43rd, and Lindsey Bogden rounded out the Cougar contingent with a tie for 72nd. Scoring as an individual at the tournament, Katherine Dorris carded a 77, nine shots better than her score at the end of the first day, and finished in a tie for 58th.
Marking the Scorecard: WSU ranks 96th as a team according to the second Golfweek/Sagarin performance index of the fall...Cougars are ranked 76th in the Div. I head-to-head rankings on Golfstat.com...Kim Welch ranks 126th in the Golfweek/Sagarin individual performance index...Welch is rated 55th in the latest women's Golfstat Cup ranking courtesy of Golfstat.com...Jay-Lee Longbottom is ranked fourth in the nation with a 92.2% rate of fairways hit according to Golfstat.com.
Sq-Welch-ing The Competition: In her last four tournaments, Welch has finished in second (Lady Vandal), third (Ram Fall Classic), fifth (Heather Farr Memorial) and 20th (Shanico Invitational)...Welch now sits just three Top 10 finishes away from tying first place Tasha Browner's 12...Welch has lowered her scoring average by nearly two full strokes (76.1 to 74.2) from last season...Welch is ranked sixth in the nation in Par 4 scoring according to Golfstat.com.
