WSU VOLLEYBALL OPENS 2014 SEASON IN BIG SKY COUNTRY
The Washington State University volleyball team begins the 2014 season this weekend at the Montana Invitational at the West Auxiliary Gym (capacity 1,218)in Missoula...WSU takes on Wyoming Friday, Aug. 29 at 3:30 p.m. PT...Saturday, Aug. 30, WSU plays host Montana at 11 a.m. PT and meets Cal Poly at 4 p.m. PT...all six UM Invite matches will have video coverage through the All-Access page at GoGriz.com...WSU matches will have video but not audio...WSU volleyball has won its season-opening match in 22 of the past 23 years.

Cougar volleyball fans can listen to all the road contests during the 2014 season LIVE in the Palouse on KQQQ-AM radio (1150 AM)…veteran area broadcaster Steve Grubbs is the voice of Cougar volleyball for the ninth consecutive season...road match audio is also available on the internet at wsucougars.com.

COUGAR COACHING STAFF
Jen Stinson Greeny begins her fourth season as WSU’s head coach (43-54 at WSU, 3 years; 155-78 in career, 7 years) - complete Greeny bio on page 3...assistant coaches Burdette Greeny (4th year) and Shannon Hunt (2nd year)...all three coaches are former WSU student-athletes...volunteer coach Kelli Tikker...Katie Hinrichs is coordinator of operations (4th year).

2013 WSU VOLLEYBALL HIGHLIGHTS: A PROGRAM ON THE RISE AGAIN
* 18-win season is most since 2009 NCAA Championship team.
* WSU tallied five wins over teams with RPIs in the top 50.
* Five conference wins were most since 2009 and four wins were over teams that went on to play in the 2013 NCAA Championship tournament.
* 3-2 win over No. 16 Arizona State (10/11) was first victory over a ranked team for Head Coach Jen Greeny.
* 3-2  win over No. 4 USC (11/17), WSU was down 2-0 in sets and came back from a fifth-set 14-8 deficit to win 21-19...Cougars stopped six consecutive match points...first five-set loss of year for USC...first USC loss to a team ranked outside of RPI top 15.
* 3-2 win at No. 23 California (11/24) was first win over Cal for Cougars since 2003, and first at Berkeley since 2003.
* Fierce competitors winning five of nine five-set matches, most since 2008
