Washington State soccer makes its first road trip of the season, playing at BYU…schools will battle, Monday, Aug. 25 at 5:30 p.m. Mountain/4:30 p.m. Pacific…televised by BYUtv…live stats will be available at www.byucougars.com.

LAST WEEK

Washington State opened renovated Lower Soccer Field with a 3-0 victory over visiting TCU, Aug. 22…sophomore Kailiana Johnson (PK), and seniors Mesa Owsley and Jocelyn Jeffers each scored a goal for the Cougars…junior Cara Wegner contributed a pair of assists…redshirt senior Gurveen Clair made four saves while recording her school-record 25th-career shutout.

WASHINGTON STATE HEAD COACH STEVE NUGENT

Cougar Head Coach Steve Nugent is in his first year at Washington State, and his fourth year overall as a head coach...owns 1-0-0 record with the Cougars and 31-23-6 overall…Nugent was the mentor at UNC Greensboro from 2011-13.

COUGAR ON THE ROAD

Washington State has won its last three road openers and four-straight on the road overall…Cougars were 7-1-3 on opponent fields last season…Washington State is 8-1-1 in last 10 matches played in the Mountain Time Zone.

WASHINGTON STATE IN THE RANKINGS

The Cougars are the first team receiving votes in the NSCAA preseason Top 25…Washington State is No. 24 in the College Sports Madness poll.

COUGARS SEEK RETURN TO POSTSEASON

Washington State has made three-straight NCAA Championship appearances, a first for the program…Cougars have made five trips to the NCAA postseason in the last six years, one of 28 schools nationally to accomplish the feat…Cougars have advanced to the second round twice in that span…last year, Washington State was eliminated by Illinois in the first round on penalty kicks to finish 14-3-4.

PRESEASON ACCOLADES

Senior midfielder Nicole Setterlund was named Preseason All-America Third Team by College Sports Madness…Setterlund was also ranked at No. 80 in the TopDrawerSoccer Top 100…midfielder Sofia Anker-Kofoed was named to the TopDrawerSoccer Women’s Soccer Preseason Best XI Freshman Team.

IN THE RECORD BOOKS

Redshirt senior goalkeeper Gurveen Clair, junior Kourtney Guetlein and senior forward Jocelyn Jeffers are each ranked in career categories at Washington State…Clair is first in goals against average (0.70), save percentage (82.6), shutouts (25), wins (35)…also ranked in goalkeeper matches played (second, 61), goalkeeper matches started (second, 58), goalkeeper minutes (second, 5,357), saves (fourth, 199)…Guetlein is the school record holder for assists per game (0.32) and tied for ninth in assists (13)…Jeffers is tied for eighth in game-winning goals (6), tied for ninth in goals (17) and tied for 10th with 44 points, 0.72 points per game and 0.28 goals per game.

ABOUT THE BYU COUGARS

BYU leads the series with Washington State 3-2-1, including 2-1-0 in Provo…BYU won 3-0 at home in 2000 and 3-1 in 2010…Washington State posted a 2-1 road victory in 2004…BYU tied its season-opener 1-1 at Cal State Fullerton…ranked 17th by Soccer America and 22nd by the NSCAA.
