Cougar Offense Takes Off In Final Lewiston Scrimmage

LEWISTON, Idaho – Washington State football closed its fall camp in Lewiston with an 85-play scrimmage at Sacajawea Junior High School Wednesday afternoon.

The Cougars saw quarterback Connor Halliday throw for four touchdowns as the offense added three touchdowns on the ground. Running back Gerard Wicks led the way with 94 yards on five carries including a 44-yard touchdown run against the No. 1 defense. Fellow running back Jamal Morrow rushed 10 times for 41 yards and two scores.

Halliday went 12-of-18 for 185 yards while tossing touchdowns to Rickey Galvin (50 yards), Dom Williams (28 yards), Calvin Green (1 yard) and Isiah Myers (38). Luke Falk and Peyton Bender each threw two touchdowns. Bender was impressive while operating the No. 3 offense, completing 12-of-14 passes for 108 yards. Myers led all receivers with 60 receiving yards and two scores, 6 and 38 yards. Kristoff Williams posted a team-high six catches including a 7-yard score from Falk.

The defense picked off one pass as safety Taliulu corralled a dropped pass for the interception and the Cougars tallied eight sacks, led by freshman Hercules Mata’afa with 2.5.

Halliday got the No. 1 offense rolling with a 50-yard scoring strike to Galvin on the first play and the Wicks later capped a drive by the No. 2 offense with a 44-yard run against the No. 1 defense, busting through the right side of the line before bouncing outside and out-running the defense for the score.

The Cougars head back to Pullman and will practice Friday night at 8 p.m. in Martin Stadium.
