PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State’s Sofia Anker-Kofoed (Anchor Koh-Foh-ed) has been named to the TopDrawerSoccer Women’s College Preseason Best XI Freshman Team.

A native of Ystad, Sweden, Anker-Kofoed is a midfielder who has competed for the U-17 and U-19 National Teams in her native country.

“Whenever you have a student-athlete mentioned among the nation’s best, it is an honor for her and your program,” Cougar Head Coach Steve Nugent said. “Sofia is a very committed soccer player who undoubtedly will work hard to live up to the expectations this type of recognition creates.”

Anker-Kofoed played for FC Rosenguard in the Damallsyenskan League, a club that has captured eight championships in 22 seasons playing in the highest division of women’s soccer in Sweden.

Washington State opens its regular season at home, Friday, Aug. 22 in a 5 p.m. match televised by the Pac-12 Networks.
