PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State University Head Coach Lisa Hart has signed Donika Bashota to a National Letter of Intent, it was announced Saturday.
Bashota, from Lidkoping, Sweden, plans to enroll for the start of the 2014 fall semester, where she will join Holly Monahan, Anastacia Vasyukhina and Grace Lymer-Sullivan as part of the incoming class for Cougar tennis.
"We are thrilled to welcome Donika to the Cougar family,” said Hart. “Donika possesses both a great personality and high level of tennis ability and we are excited to see the success she will achieve as a Coug!"
Bashota finished 2013 with a WTA doubles ranking of No. 697 and singles ranking of No. 1128, while her highest WTA singles ranking is 1059 and doubles 622. She also has two WTA doubles titles to her credit, one in 2013 and one in 2012. In 2012 she captured two International Tennis Federation (ITF) Junior titles along with a runner-up finish, while also finishing as runner-up in singles once. In 2011 she won an IFT Junior event in both singles and doubles in Israel while reaching three other finals in doubles and one in singles.
She has also been a member of the Swedish national team at numerous events, including the Scandinavian Championships (2007) and the European Championships (2011).
“I am so excited,” Bashota said. “The United States has always been a dream for me and now here I am, having the opportunity to both study and play tennis which I really love with awesome people in a beautiful city like Pullman… I couldn't ask for anything else.”
