PULLMAN, Wash. – Three Washington State football players received Preseason All-Pac-12 honors from Athlon Sports, the publication announced Tuesday.
Redshirt-junior defensive lineman Xavier Cooper and redshirt-junior linebacker Darryl Monroe were each named the preseason All-Pac-12 Third Team and redshirt-senior wide receiver Vince Mayle was placed on the fourth team. Cooper and Monroe were both named to the preseason All-Pac-12 Third Team by Phil Steele Magazine.
Cooper started all 13 games for the Cougars last season, making 50 tackles including team-highs of 13.5 tackles-for-loss and five sacks. The Tacoma, Wash. native also recovered two fumbles, forced two and scored one touchdown on a fumble return.
In his first season at WSU last year, Mayle appeared in all 13 games, caught 42 passes for 539 yards and tied for the team high with seven touchdown receptions. The Natomas, Calif. native finished second on the team with nine catches of 20-plus yards.
Monroe has started every game the past two seasons at MIKE linebacker. The Orlando, Fla. native tallied 94 tackles last year including eight tackles-for-loss, two sacks and also forced two fumbles.
The Cougars open their 2014 season Thursday, Aug. 28 against Rutgers in The Seattle Game at CenturyLink Field.
