LYNCHBURG, Va. – Washington State University’s Ian Hamilton was named a 2014 Freshman All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), Monday.
The NCBWA placed Hamilton on its second team. He is the only student-athlete competing in the Pac-12 Conference who received an honor from the NCBWA. Last week, the right-handed closer was named to the Louisville Slugger Collegiate Baseball All-America team.
A native of Vancouver, Wash., Hamilton saved a school-record 15 games to lead the Pac-12 and tie for the national lead among freshmen with Bryan Garcia (Miami, Fla.).
Hamilton appeared in 28 games and posted a 2-2 record with a 2.70 ERA. He was an All-Pac-12 selection earlier this year. He is the first Cougar since outfielder Derek Jones (2009) to earn a spot on a freshman All-America team.
