WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- Washington State’s Elizaveta Luzina capped her 2014 season by being named All-Pac-12 honorable mention, the conference announced Wednesday.
A native of Moscow, Russia, Luzina recently completed her junior year where she posted a team-best 55 combined wins, going 29-10 in singles and 26-8 in doubles with partner Lize Leenknecht, setting a single-season school record in the latter. Playing at the number one singles position, Luzina reached a high of No. 72 in the collegiate rankings this season, bolstered by wins over the nation’s 25th-, 41st- and 50th-ranked players. Her victories total is fourth on WSU’s single-season list and with 79 career wins, she is tied for seventh in school history. At the recent team banquet she was named the most valuable player for the second-straight season.
Earlier this month Luzina was named the Northwest Region recipient of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Cissie Leary Award for Sportsmanship, awarded to a collegiate women's tennis player who displays dedication and commitment to her team, which has enhanced her team's performance and exemplified the spirit of college tennis.
