Kent Shines at Silverado Showdown

NAPA, Calif. – The Washington State women’s golf team ends the first day of the Silverado Showdown in 15th place (+40, 616). The Cougars improved their second round score by six strokes with a score of 305. Washington leads the pack (+5, 581) with USC in second place (+6, 582) and Oregon State in third (+7, 583).

Senior, Mallory Kent, led the way for the Washington State women’s golf team ending the first two rounds tied for 27th. Kent scored a 149 at the end of day one with a strong first round score of 73, +1.

Nani Yanagi and Kristen Rue were the next top finishers for the Cougars ending round two tied for 51st (+11, 155). Both Rue and Yanagi shared identical round scores and improved their second round scores by three strokes. Freshman, Cherokee Kim, was not far behind Yanagi and Rue finishing T-56th with a score of 157 (+13).

"The team got off to a slow start in the first round and battled back in the second," said Head Coach Kelli Kamimura. " We improved by 6 shots in the second round and look to keep the momentum going and make a move up the leaderboard today."

Washington State will begin the third and final round of the tournament with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. on Apr. 15th.
