PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State football continued spring practice with a two-hour workout in full pads that ended with 40 “live” plays in Martin Stadium Saturday afternoon.

The Cougars opened practice by working through their similar routine of individual position workouts, an 11-vs.-11 running game drill, 7-vs.-7, before covering punt coverage and wrapping up with 11-vs.-11 team.

Redshirt-senior quarterback Connor Halliday led the first series, moving the first team offense down the field with completions to redshirt-senior wideouts Kristoff Williams and Vince Mayle. He capped the drive with 20-yard touchdown pass to redshirt-senior running back Theron West who made the catch in the space and raced up the left sideline before diving into the endzone for the score. A couple plays later, the defense blocked a 33-yard field goal attempt by Erik Powell.

Redshirt-freshman Tyler Bruggman quarterbacked the next series, connecting with redshirt-junior wide receiver Tyler Baker down the field for a first down. Bruggman later capped his drive with a quick throw to redshirt-junior Drew Loftus in traffic for a 10-yard touchdown.

Halliday operated the next series, picking his way down the field before hitting Mayle on the run for a short score. A couple plays later, redshirt-freshman kicker Erik Powell hit from 40 yards out.

The final series was led by redshirt-freshman Luke Falk who connected with redshirt-freshman wideout Robert Lewis for a first down early in the drive. Later in the series, redshirt-freshman running back Gerard Wicks burst through a hole for a big gain off the right side for another first down. Falk then connected with Williams to get inside the 10 but the defense answered with a sack and then batted down a pass on the final offensive play. Powell closed the day with a 48-yard field goal.

The Cougars will practice at 3 p.m. Tuesday.
