Regan Runs Into Record Book at Stanford Invite

STANFORD, Calif. -- Washington State’s Abby Regan ran into the Cougar women’s 800m records Saturday afternoon at the Stanford Invitational at Cobb Track and Angell Field.

Regan, a junior from Coonamble, NSW, Australia, ran a lifetime-best 800m time of 2 minutes 7.07 seconds for sixth place in the women’s race. Her time is the eighth-fastest by a Cougar woman all-time. Other WSU women in the race included Courtney Zalud (2:09.24 - 22nd), Ashlie Standow (2:20.16 - 73rd), and Leanne Asper (2:25.88 - 77th). Two Cougar men ran season-bests in the 800m with Matthew Swanson’s time 1:51.68 for 25th and Hironmoy Redman’s 1:56.23 was 71st.

PJ Benedictus (junior, Renton, Wash.) triple jumped a season-best 48-feet 11 inches (14.91m) for seventh place in the men’s invitational event. In the women’s invitational triple jump, Shantae Young (senior, Oak Harbor, Wash.) finished sixth with a wind-aided leap of 39-8 3/4 (12.11m).

Terrance Chambers ran the 200m in 21.85 for ninth and Jacob Sealby’s time of 21.88 was 10th. Also competing were Andre McBride (21.95 - 17th), Rashaun Johnson (22.21 - 27th), and Lucas Sealby (22.33 - 31st).Cougars in the women’s 200m included Briauna Watley (24.81 - 18th), Mimi Brown (25.10 - 24th), Bree Winfrey (25.19 - 26th), and Christiana Ekelem (25.25 - 27th).

In the men’s 110m hurdles final, Josiah Sims finished eighth with a time of 14.69 after he ran a Friday prelim time of 14.52, and Daniel Zmuda finished ninth in a time of 14.71 after he ran a prelim time of 14.70.

The WSU men’s 1600m relay of CJ Allen, Jesse Jorgensen, Lucas Sealby and Jacob Sealby finished fourth in a season-best time of 3:12.22 while the WSU women were 11th with a time of 3:46.57.

SPOKANE, Wash. -- Cougars claimed five wins Saturday at the 9th Annual Sam Adams Classic at Whitworth University’s Boppell Track at the Pine Bowl.

Freshman Kyle Farmer (Issaquah,Wash.) won the men’s 100m dash in a season-best time of 10.87 seconds and was the runner-up in the 200m with a PR time of 22.39. Another freshman, Jackson Haselnus (Gresham, Ore.) won the men’s 1500m in a time of 3 minutes 58.69 seconds.

Kyle Stevens (senior, Snoqualmie, Wash.) won the men’s javelin with a toss of 208-feet, 7 inches (63.58m).

Lateah Holmes (sophomore, Fife, Wash.) won the women’s high jump after clearing the bar at a height of 5-5 3/4 (1.67m). McKenna Hogan (freshman, Issaquah, Wash.) won the women’s long jump with a PR leap of 18-1 (5.51m).

Kiah Condos ran a PR time 4:44.44 for second place in the women’s 1500m. Mary Barnett was the runner-up in the women’s shot put with a season-best distance of 45-4 1/4 (13.82m).

Next weekend, Washington State will send track and field competitors to the Jim Click Invite in Tucson and to the SCC WAR VII in Spokane.
