PULLMAN, Wash. -- Washington State’s Jesse Jorgensen will represent the Cougars at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships next weekend in Albuquerque, NM. The top 16 qualifiers were announced early Tuesday evening at NCAA.com.
Jorgensen, a redshirt junior from Puyallup, Wash., ran a lifetime-best time of 1 minute 48.84 seconds to win the men’s 800m title at the MPSF Indoor Championships last Saturday in Seattle. Jorgensen made a surge in the final 250 meters and his lean at the finish line was the deciding factor in a highly-contested field. Jorgensen’s time was 17th-best among NCAA Division I men but moved up to 16th after the declarations. Only 16 athletes per event, and a total of 12 relay teams, are included in the Championships meet.
Jorgensen, making his first appearance at a DI national meet, will run in the men’s 800m semifinals Friday, March 14, at 6:45 p.m. PT. The top eight runners will race in the final Saturday, March 15, at 6:20 p.m. PT. ESPN3 will stream the meet live from the Albuquerque Convention Center, starting at 4:55 p.m. ET March 14 and at 4:50 p.m. PT March 15. A tape delay of the championship will air Saturday, March 22 starting at 3:30 p.m. PT on ESPNU.
