Rue and Kent Crack Top-25 on Day One

PEORIA, Ariz. – The Washington State women’s golf team is in 11th place (+10, 586) after the first two rounds of the Westbrook Spring Invitational. Junior, Kristen Rue, and Senior, Mallory Kent, were the top two finishers of the day for the Cougars both sitting tied for 24th (+1, 145). A ranked Oregon squad (19-golfstat) sits atop the leaderboard with a score of 553 and 23 under par.

Rue started out the tournament strong scoring two under par on the opening round and notching two birdies. In the second round Rue scored a 75 and finished the day in the top 25.

Kent was also a top finisher for WSU after two consistent opening rounds of play. Carding six birdies for the day, Kent was even after the first round and scored only one over par on the second round.

Sophomore, Monica Huang, made her debut for the Cougars scoring two over par for both rounds ending the day tied for 42nd (+4, 148).

“The team played solid today and we feel good about our play,” said Head Coach Kelli Kamimura. “We are excited for the final round tomorrow and look to climb up the leaderboard.”

The final round of the Westbrook Invitational will be a shotgun start on Monday Feb. 24th at 8:30 a.m. MT.
