KANSAS CITY, Kan. –  Washington State senior forward Micaela Castain was named to the 2013 NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division I Women’s All-America Second Team, Friday.

The Castro Valley, Calif., is the first Cougar in the program’s 25 seasons to be named to an NSCAA All-America team. Last month, she was named to the Madness Soccer All-America First Team.

“I’m so excited,” Castain said. “This award shows how hard my team and I worked this season.”

Washington State Head Coach Keidane McAlpine added, “An award-winning season and career gets better. This should allow Micaela more opportunities to compete at the next level. She put in the hard work and is now reaping the benefits. I am super proud of her, our team and Washington State University.”

Castain finished the regular season as the Pac-12 leader or co-leader in goals (11), assists (11) and points (33). She was named the Pac-12 Player of the Year, a first for the Cougar program. Madness Soccer named her its Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Year.

The assist total for the Castro Valley, Calif., native and her 0.52 assists per game set Washington State single season records. She finished her career among the top five in Cougar history in 14 categories.
