LOS ANGELES – UCLA scored a pair of second half goals and the No. 3 Bruins handed Washington State its first loss of the season, 2-0, in Pac-12 women’s soccer, Friday.

The goals were the first given up the Cougars (7-1-3, 0-1-1 Pac-12) after intermission this season. They were the first goals by either side in the series since 2011.

“We did a good job all the way around in the first half,” Washington State Head Coach Keidane McAlpine said. “We kept possession when we won the ball and defensively we were aggressive, especially on the flanks. In the second half, we got away from that and it’s those moments that allow a quality team to take a game.”

Washington State held a 4-3 edge in shots during the first half and defended four UCLA (10-1-0, 2-0-0 Pac-12) corner kicks in the opening 45 minutes.

The Bruins broke the deadlock on Courtney Proctor’s goal in the 59th minute and added insurance on a goal by Darin Jenkins in the 64th minute.

The Cougars conclude their road trip at USC, Sunday at 3 p.m. in a match televised by the Pac-12 Networks.
