EUGENE, Ore. – Washington State and Oregon played to a 0-0 draw in the Pac-12 women’s soccer opener for both schools, Thursday night.

The Cougars (7-0-3, 0-0-1 Pac-12), who held a 17-7 advantage in shots, created the more dangerous chances in the match, but none better than the first 30 seconds of overtime. Senior Micaela Castain’s header hit the crossbar and junior Nicole Setterlund’s rebound attempt was denied at the near post by Oregon (2-4-3, 0-0-1) goalkeeper Abby Steele.

“The chance in overtime was a great one,” Washington State Head Coach Keidane McAlpine said. “But, we created plenty of chances in the first half and should have finished more than one of them. We are disappointed, but earning a point on the road in the conference is a positive.”

With the draw, the Cougars extended their school-record unbeaten streak to 14 matches, the second-longest active streak in the country.

The Cougars play at nationally-ranked UCLA, Friday, Oct. 4 at 4 p.m.

Washington State is one of nine unbeaten teams in the country…Cougars earned their third-straight shutout and eighth of the season.
