BREMERTON, Wash. - The Washington State University men's golf team concluded play at the Kikkor Golf Husky Invitational at Gold Mountain Golf Club, placing 11th.

The Cougars finished the tournament 16 strokes over par (880). WSU finished ahead of 12th-place Gonzaga, carding an 892 (+28), and three strokes behind 10th-place UC Davis with an 877 (+13).

Junior Michael Anderson led the Cougars, tying for second in the tournament, shooting 5-under (211) through three rounds. Anderson tied BYU’s Joe Parkinson and finished six strokes back from tournament champion Cheng-Tsung Pan of Washington (-11, 205). WSU redshirt junior Sang Lee finished the day one stroke under par (71) to notch a tournament score of 220 (+4). Lee tied for 28th in the tournament. Senior Blake Snyder carded a 221 (+5) to finish tied for 32nd overall.

“Michael Anderson played outstanding,” Cougar Head Coach Garrett Clegg said. “This was probably the best tournament he’s played at Washington State, especially in such a strong field. Sang Lee played well, and Blake Snyder had a rough start, but came back strong. Unfortunately, the finish wasn’t what we wanted. We dug ourselves a deep hole and tried to get out of it, but couldn’t. We need to do a better job early in the tournament and play better top to bottom.”

Host school Washington won the tournament, shooting 17-under par (847). The Huskies were followed by second place Arizona State (+1, 865), and third place Oregon State (+4, 868).

In the individual tournament on Gold Mountain’s Par-71 Cascade Course, junior Charlie Mroz and freshman Blake Toolan tied for eighth place, carding scores of 217 (+4).

The Cougars finished the first day of the tournament in eighth place with a team score of 586 (+10).

The team will travel to Erie, Colo., to compete in the Mark Simpson CU Invitational, Sept. 23-24.
