STILLWATER, Okla. – Senior Micaela Castain tallied two first half goals and Washington State earned a 2-2 draw at Oklahoma State in nonconference women’s soccer, Sunday.

It was the second-straight, two-goal match for Castain. The Castro Valley, Calif., native now leads Washington State (5-0-2) with eight goals and 19 points.

“We had great energy and great moments in the match,” Washington State Head Coach Keidane McAlpine said. “Micaela Castain, Kayla Johnson and Rachael Doyle were all big for us today. We certainly had plenty of opportunities to win the match.”

The Cougars are unbeaten through seven matches at the start of the season for the first time in school history and extended their unbeaten streak to a school-record 11 matches dating back to last season.

Castain put Washington State on the board first in the 12th minute when she nailed a free kick from 30 yards out. Oklahoma State (3-2-3) tied the score in the 18th minute on its first shot of the match. It was the first goal given up by the Cougars in 457:11.

The Cowgirls took a 2-1 lead in the 43rd minute, but the Cougars tied the match just 48 seconds later. Castain received a pass at the top of the box and spun a defender. Both student-athletes fell down before Castain recovered in time to get to the ball and hammer a shot to inside the far post from nine yards out.

The statistics were overwhelmingly in favor of Washington State. The Cougars outshot the Cowgirls 20-6, including 11-3 in the first half and 4-0 in overtime. Washington State also held a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.

The Cougars make their first of two trips to Southern California and will face Cal State Fullerton, Friday at 6 p.m.
