THIS WEEK

Washington State soccer (1-0-0) opens the home portion of its schedule, playing host to a pair of regional rivals…Cougars take on Idaho (0-2-0), Friday, Aug. 30 at 3 p.m. and entertain Eastern Washington (0-2-0, plays Friday), Sunday, Sept. 1 at 1 p.m…both matches are scheduled for Lower Soccer Field…first 200 fans to Friday’s match receive a Cougar tank top.

WASHINGTON STATE HEAD COACH KEIDANE McALPINE

Cougar Head Coach Keidane McAlpine is in his second year at Washington State, and his seventh year overall as a head coach...McAlpine is 13-6-2 in Pullman and 53-54-13 overall…led Cougars to NCAA First Round in 2012.

COUGARS IN PULLMAN

Washington State is 15-7-2 all-time in home openers…Cougars have won 15-straight and are unbeaten in their last-21 home matches against unranked, nonconference opponents…last loss was to Nevada, Sept. 8, 2006.

WASHINGTON STATE RECEIVING VOTES

Cougars are receiving votes in both the NSCAA and Soccer Times polls.

SERIES AGAINST IDAHO

Cougars are 8-1-0 all-time against the Vandals and have won eight-straight…Washington State has won each of the four meetings in Pullman, outscoring Idaho 9-0...last season, Cougars posted 5-1 victory in Moscow with Jocelyn Jeffers scoring two goals.

ABOUT THE VANDALS

Idaho is 0-2-0 with road losses to Weber State and Idaho State…Vandals were outscored 5-0 last weekend to open 2013.

SERIES AGAINST EASTERN WASHINGTON

Cougars lead series with Eagles 4-0-0…all meetings have been in Pullman with the Cougars holding a 21-3 advantage in goals…last match was 3-1 Washington State win in 2008 with Elysse Van Leer, Carly Dobratz and Tiara Pittman each recording a goal.

ABOUT THE EAGLES

Eastern Washington is 0-2-0 with home losses to Gonzaga (1-0) and Seattle (2-0)…Eagles face Nevada on the road, Friday.

LAST WEEK

Washington State posted a 3-1 victory at Seattle, Aug. 23 in the Cougars’ season opener…freshman Kailiana Johnson, junior Jocelyn Jeffers and senior Micaela Castain each scored a goal…sophomore Kourtney Guetlein recorded a pair of assists and junior Mesa Owsley added one…Castain goal was 23rd of her career to tie for fourth on Cougar all-time list.

COUGARS ON TELEVISION

Washington State is scheduled to make eight appearances on the Pac-12 Networks this season…Cougars play UNLV (Sept. 13), Utah (Oct. 13) and Stanford (Nov. 3) at home…Washington State takes on Oregon (Sept. 26), UCLA (Oct. 4), USC (Oct. 6), Arizona (Oct. 25) and Washington (Nov. 8) in road matches.

COUGARS SEEK RETURN TO POSTSEASON

Washington State has made four trips to the NCAA postseason in the last-five years…Cougars have advanced to the second round twice in that span…last year, Washington State was eliminated by Portland, a No. 4 seed in the tournament, on penalty kicks and finished 12-6-2.
