The Washington State University football team continued preseason camp with a 90-minute workout in helmets and shoulder pads Thursday afternoon. Practice was scaled down 30 minutes today after practicing for two hours in each of the past six days. WSU head men’s basketball coach Ken Bone was in attendance to watch the Cougars seventh practice of preseason camp.

WSU worked through its regular practice plan of individuals and 1-vs.-1 battles, before going into a couple periods of special teams that focused on kickoff return. Sandwiched in between the two special teams segments, WSU worked through its daily 7-vs.-7 session while the defensive and offensive lines matched up in a running game drill.

In team, the first series was led by redshirt-junior quarterback Connor Halliday who hit redshirt-sophomore wideout Dominique Williams for a big gain and a first down midway through the drive. Halliday later connected with sophomore running back Teondray Caldwell out of the backfield for another first down as Caldwell sprinted up the sideline before lowering his shoulder and delivering a loud hit against a defensive back. A couple plays later, Halliday completed a pass to freshmen wide receiver River Cracraft in stride, allowing the youngster to quickly turn upfield and pick up another big gain for the offense. In the red zone, following a “sack” by defensive lineman Toni Pole, sophomore wideout Gabe Marks continued his strong camp with a tough catch in traffic to pick up a first down.

Redshirt-freshman Austin Apodaca quarterbacked the second series and strung together a couple nice throws early in the drive, one to redshirt-junior wideout Rickey Galvin, one to junior wide receiver Isiah Myers and one more to newcomer senior receiver Vince Mayle who made the catch in traffic, turned up field and made one defender miss to pick up another 10 yards. Inside the red zone, the defense held strong against the surging offense, forcing a fumble that was recovered by senior linebacker Justin Sagote before ending the day with a tackle-for-loss by redshirt-sophomore defensive lineman Xavier Cooper after he burst through the line and swarmed Apodaca while he tried to corral a low snap.

WSU continues preseason camp Friday at 3 p.m.
