CORVALLIS, Ore. - Ryan Barnes delivered a two-out, RBI-single in the bottom of the ninth to provide No. 3 Oregon State a 7-6 victory over Washington State, Sunday.
Barnes' game-winning hit came off Washington State (23-32, 9-21 Pac-12) reliever J.D. Leckenby (2-4), the third Cougar pitcher of the day and made a winner out of Max Engelbrekt (4-1), the sixth Oregon State (45-10, 24-6 Pac-12) hurler in the game.
The Beavers clinched the Pac-12 title earlier in the day when Oregon lost at Utah.
Oregon State jumped out to a 4-0 lead with a run in the first and three more in the second against Washington State starter Scott Simon. The Cougars roared back with three in the third and two in the fourth off Beavers' starter Ben Wetzler to grab a 5-4 lead.
In the third, freshman Trek Stemp led off the inning with his first-career home run. Collin Slaybaugh followed with a double and scored on a one-out double by Jason Monda. After Monda stole third, Patrick McGrath plated a run with a ground out.
Yale Rosen opened the fourth with a double, but was erased on a fielder's choice off the bat of Adam Nelubowich. Trace Tam Sing walked and Stemp singled to load the bases. Slaybaugh singled to score Nelubowich the tying run and P.J. Jones brought Tam Sing in with go-ahead tally on a sacrifice fly.
The Cougars added a run in the sixth on a single by Nelubowich, a sacrifice bunt by Tam Sing and a one-out RBI-single by Slaybaugh.
Monda, who replaced Simon on the mound in the fourth, retired the first-10 men he faced before giving up back-to-back home runs to Dylan Davis and Danny Hayes leading off the eighth that tied the game, 6-6.
