MATSON'S HIGH SCHOOL CAREER
Earned three varsity letters for coach Terry Ennis as an offensive tackle and linebacker...also has four track letters...during SOPHOMORE year received All-WestCo honorable mention honors as team made it to the first round of the state playoffs...won the league shot put title...JUNIOR year was an all-league first team pick at both linebacker and offensive tackle...team finished third in the state...qualified for the state meet in the shot put...as a SENIOR named the Everett Herald's defensive player of the year...an all-league first team pick as a linebacker and offensive lineman...named to the Seattle Times all-area team...team again finished third in the state playoffs ... placed fourth in the state shotput with a throw of 57'8.

MATSON'S WSU CAREER

  • Freshman (1996-97): Redshirt season.
  • RS-Freshman (1997-98): V-letter ... appeared in eight games as a backup linebacker and a member of special teams...did not play in the opener against UCLA, nor against Arizona, Stanford or Michigan, the latter in the Rose Bowl. ... recorded two tackles ... one pass deflection.
  • RS-Sophomore (1998-99): V-letter...moved to defensive end/line at the start of spring drills...played in all 11 games and started the last eight games of the season...finished with 25 tackles and five TFL...best outing five tackles each in the last two games against Stanford and Washington...in finale against the Huskies also had two TFL...had at least one tackle in all but games at UCLA and at Arizona...earned the following game awards: Most Disciplined Defense - UCLA; Defensive Lineman - Stanford.
