GENERAL: Earned three varsity letters each in football and baseball...played in the outfield for coach Dave Tate...played linebacker and running back in football... SOPHOMORE: Selected to the all-league first team as an outfielder... JUNIOR: Won baseball team’s captain award and in football was an all-league first team pick at running back...SENIOR: All-South Puget Sound League first team pick and an All-State honoree...hit .425 with five home runs and 23 stolen bases....top pick of the 10 players from the north and south divisions of the league selected for the All-State series...football season shortened to four games by an injury.

PHILLEY'S WASHINGTON STATE CAREER

FRESHMAN (1996-97): Enrolled in August...member of Cougar football team, redshirting his first season...saw action in 22 games prior to the start of spring football drills at the end of March and was one of the team’s top hitters at .333...had 14 hits, including two home runs and four doubles...playing time reduced significantly because of football drills...best game came in a win over Gonzaga when he went 3-for-5 while driving home four runs with a pair of home runs...also scored four times in that game...had five multiple-hit games ...here's how he hit against Pac-10 North opponents: OSU .000 (0/0), PSU (DNP), Washington .500 (2/4)...his monthly hitting averages: February .368 (7/19), March .304 (7/23), April .333 (2/6), May (DNP).

SOPHOMORE (1997-98): Appeared in 11 games as a backup linebacker and special teams member as a redshirt freshman for the Cougar football team...named honorable mention Pac-10 all-around special teams player as voted on by the league’s coaches... played in the Rose Bowl on special teams… made seven total tacklesdid not play baseball in spring using a redshirt season.
