RIVARD’S WASHINGTON STATE CAREER

SOPHOMORE (1997-98): Transferred from Hancock Junior College, enrolling in January…immediately saw action in the Cougar relief corps, making four appearances in the first two series…pitched one inning of scoreless ball against Arizona State Feb. 15…his longest relief appearance of the year was also his best, as he went four innings giving up only two hits and no runs against Washington April 5…he picked up the save in that game…credited with a team high four saves, which was second in the Pac-10 North to Washington’s Cody Morrison…made a team high 19 appearances on the mound…averaged nearly nine strikeouts per nine innings...solidified his spot as the team’s closer down the stretch of the season…monthly pitching totals: February 7.0i/0-0/12.86, March 11.1i/0-1/3.18, April 12.1i/0-1/5.84, May 2.2i/0-0/13.50...pitching against league opponents: ASU 2.0i/0-0/18.00, CAL 4.1i/0-1/4.15, OSU 4.1i/0-0/0.00, Washington 6.1i/0-1/9.95.

JUNIOR (1998-99): Started the year as the Cougars’ closer and tallied a team-high five saves in 1999… a lack of consistency from the bullpen moved him into a starting role where he was very successful… tied for the team lead with 26 pitching appearances… allowed only one hit in two innings to pick up his first win of the seaosn against Minnesota at the Metrodome on March 5… threw two shutout innings against nationally ranked Stanford on April 2… struck out two in a perfect inning of work to pick up his fourth save of the year vs. Oregon State on March 20… threw a complete game, one-run game at cross-state rival UW on May 1 to improve his record to 2-1… had a 1-2 record with a 5.40 ERA as a starter in seven games, and a 10.19 ERA and a 1-1 record in 19 games out of the bullpen… monthly totals: February 4.0i/0-0-2/4.50, March 7.2i/1-1-2/10.57., April 19.2i/0-0-1/6.86, May 23.0i/1-2-0/6.26... pitching against league opponents: ARIZ 1.2i/0-0/21.60, ASU 1.1i/0-0/20.25, CAL 4.0i/0-1-1/13.50, OSU 7.2i/0-0-1/4.70, STAN 2.1i/0-0/7.71, UCLA 4.2i/0-0/5.79, USC 1.0i/0-0/45.00, Washington 15.0i/1-1/3.60.

WSU CAREER: With nine career saves ranks third in the Cougar record books… needs four saves to move into second place on the list… has pitched in 45 games in his WSU career, leaving him only 10 games away from cracking the WSU top-10… one of nine Cougars with three or more years of experience in the program.
