Elissa Kinard enters her first season as assistant tennis coach at Washington State.
Prior to arriving in Pullman, Kinard most recently served as the assistant men's and women's tennis coach at Colgate University. Included in her responsibilities were assisting in the daily operations of the tennis teams, apparel and equipment management, as well as off campus recruiting for the women's team. Kinard spent the 2004-05 season as the assistant coach at American University.
Kinard began her collegiate playing career at the University of Nebraska in the fall 2000. She enjoyed a successful freshman year, posting a 16-5 record and finishing as the Big 12 runner-up in singles. Following her sophomore year, Kinard transferred to Virginia Tech. There she earned Rookie of the Year honors in her junior year, while playing for then head coach Lisa Hart. She also enjoyed a standout doubles career, being ranked as high as No. 2 in the Eastern Region, and No. 31 in the nation.
Kinard attended Bishop England High School in Charleston, S.C. There she was four time South Carolina State Player of the Year, South Carolina State Champion, All-State, and Lowcountry Player of the Year. She was also the only female candidate for the High School Heisman from her school.
Kinard, a native of Charleston, S.C., earned her bachelor's degree in sociology from Virginia Tech, and also holds a master's degree in health promotions from Virginia Tech.
