Soccer Captain's Diary: Cougars Host Oregon State and Oregon

Nov. 4, 2005

We like to make things exciting, and that we did this weekend. What a great weekend though! We played the Oregon schools and we knew we had to come out of the weekend with two wins. We played Oregon State University on Friday in the freezing cold rain and wind. The first half was pretty even but when the second half came around we knew that we needed a goal to put the game away. We were the aggressors and finally put the ball in the back of the net. Sasha did a great job connecting with Carmen's corner kick. The goal was definitely one of the prettiest of the season. The last ten minutes of the game was pretty intense as OSU was really coming at us, but we held them off and came out with a necessary win. After a short practice on Saturday and spending some time with family and friends cheering on our football team we showed up on Sunday ready to play.

Our game on Sunday against Oregon was our Senior Game Day and all seven seniors had breakfast together with our parents and the coaches. Having our parents there with us was great and they put a lot of work into the celebration of our Senior Game Day. After warm up they honored the seniors and their parents and then we got down to business. We dominated most of the game and had some great chances. The Oregon keeper came up with some great saves and the ball found the goal posts more than once. We ended up going into over-time BUT...not for long. Alix got a break away two minutes into the overtime and she put the ball in the back of the net and that was that!! Another win puts us one step closer to our goal (making the tournament). It was a great way to finish off our season at home, but we have one more game left against Washington. We know that the game against UW will be our most challenging game yet. Although they have been unlucky this season, we know they are a good team and will give us a tough game. Another win would be great for us so we will train hard this week in preparation for the weekend and we will take off on Thursday for our game and head back after the game on Friday night for Dad's weekend. If you happen to be in Seattle this weekend we would love for you to come to the game and cheer us on.
