Milburn, UCLA Hand Cougars 3-0 Defeat

October 11, 1998

PULLMAN, Wash. - Sophomore forward Tracey Milburn scored two goals and freshman midfielder Breana Boling added a third as the UCLA Bruins rolled to a 3-0 victory over the Washington State women's soccer squad Sunday at the Cougar Soccer Field.

The Cougars (3-7-2 overall, 1-1-0 Pacific-10) held 18th ranked UCLA (12-1-1 overall, 2-0-0 Pacific-10) scoreless until the final four minutes of the first half. Boling stole a deflection off the Cougar defense to score the eventual game-winner from 10 yards out. The Bruins struck again when Milburn chipped the ball over Cougar goalkeeper Lindsey Jorgensen (North Bend, Wash.) from the left baseline to the far right post to give UCLA a 2-0 halftime lead.

Senior midfielder Louise Lieberman served a pass to Milburn for her second goal in 81st minute which put the final touch on the Bruin victory.

Cougar and Pac-10 scoring leader Deka DeWitt (Auburn, Wash.) had three shots on goal while senior Randi Glas (Grand Forks, N.D.) added two. The Bruins held WSU scoreless for just the second time this season.

According to WSU Head Coach Dan Tobias, the two goals at the end of the second half took its toll on the Cougars. "That was not exactly a confidence booster for us. We looked like we were scrambling and a little disorganized in the back. We were hoping to build on what happened Friday when we were very organized defensively. We had some lapses today and good teams like UCLA are going to pounce on those opportunities and they did," said Tobias.

The match can been seen on Fox Sports Northwest Monday, Oct. 12 at 2 p.m.

The Cougars continue Pacific-10 conference play on the road this weekend as they face Oregon State Friday, Oct. 16 at 3:00 p.m. and Oregon Sunday, Oct. 18 at 1 p.m. The Oregon match will be shown by Fox Sports Northwest on a tape delayed basis Oct. 19 at 2 p.m.
