The Cougars special teams will feature a number of new faces but one of the few returners will be junior kicker Andrew Furney who made 14-of-16 field goal attempts in 2011 to post the best field goal percentage in WSU single-season history. Furney, a Lou Groza Award preseason watch list selection, connected on all five of his attempts of 40 yards or more and finished with a long of 51 last season.
The punting and kickoff duties are open with junior college transfer Michael Bowlin expected to take over those responsibilities after producing a solid spring. Freshman walk-on Wes Concepcion also impressed the coaching staff in the spring and will push both Furney and Bowlin for one of the kicking jobs.
As far as punt returners and kick returners go, redshirt junior Leon Brooks returns after serving as the Cougars main punt returner a year ago while sophomore Marcus Mason also returns after sharing the kick return duties last season. Both players along with redshirt sophomore Rickey Galvin will be in the mix with newcomers junior Theron West, and freshmen Rahmel Dockery and Brett Bartolone.
