COUGARS AT MPSF INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS: The Washington State University track and field teams travel to Seattle for the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships this Thursday through Saturday at the Dempsey Indoor Facility on the University of Washington campus...the women's pentathlon and the first part of the men's heptathlon will be contested Thurs., Feb. 26, with the rest of the events staged Friday and Saturday, Feb. 27- 28...a complete MPSF Championship Meet schedule can be found at the University of Washington Web site, or click here for a PDF version. Results will be posted on the WSU Athletics website, www.wsucougars.com, when available each day.

INDOOR TEAM HISTORY: Because the Pacific-10 Conference does not sponsor indoor track and field competition, Washington State University competes in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation for indoor track season joining teams from the Pac-10, Mountain West, Western Athletic, West Coast and Big West Conferences...at the 2003 MPSF Indoor Championships, the Cougar women finished third while the WSU men were seventh...Stanford's women's team and the UCLA men's team won the 2003 team titles.

TEAMS COMPETING AT 2004 MPSF: Men's teams joining WSU are Arizona, California, Cal State Northridge, Idaho, Long Beach State, Oregon, Stanford, UCLA, Utah State, and host Washington...women's teams competing this weekend including WSU are Arizona, California, Cal State Northridge, Cal Poly, Long Beach State, Oregon, Stanford, UC Irvine, UCLA, Utah State, and Washington.

ABOUT THE COUGAR COACHES: Head coach Rick Sloan is in his 31st season with the Cougar track program; tenth year as a head coach, ninth year as mentor to the combined men's and women's program...he is joined by associate coach Debra Farwell, and assistant coaches Mark Macdonald, Kris Grimes, Jason Drake and Ellannee Richardson, former All-American heptathlete and sprinter...volunteer coaches are Dan O'Brien, Michael Friedberg, and Andrea Thornton.

MASON MAKES MARK(S): Matt Mason, a junior semester transfer, won the UW Pac-10 Invite long jump, breaking a 16-year old school record and reaching an NCAA Automatic Qualifying mark of 7.87m/25-10...the previous week at the Husker Invite at Nebraska, he reached an NCAA PQ time of 7.80 in the 60m hurdles semis...Mason transferred from Long Beach CC and also spent a year at Florida State...this week, Mason is scheduled to run the third leg of the Cougar men's 4x400m relay at the MPSF Championships.

INDOOR REDSHIRTS: Senior sprinter/triple jumper Bree Skinner (Pasco, Wash.) has a stress fracture in her pelvic bone...decathlete Darion Powell (Kirkland, Wash.) and heptathlete Julie Pickler (Sachse, Texas) are redshirting the indoor season only in order to "even" their eligibility with outdoor seasons...suffering from hamstring injuries are sophomore pole vaulter Tyson Byers (Spokane, Wash.) and freshman triple jumper Kaylee Gardner (Bellingham, Wash.)...junior distance runners Mike Heidt (Selah, Wash.), Justin Ireland (Issaquah, Wash.) and Julia Corbett (Bremerton, Wash.) have not recovered from injuries and will redshirt...freshman pole vaulter D.J. Brown (Bellingham, Wash.) had knee surgery last fall...freshman hammer thrower Keith Tyler (Union Gap, Wash.) is redshirting in order to work on technique in this event.

COUGAR WOMEN'S LEADERS AND HIGHLIGHTS:
Molly Bull (junior, Oak Harbor, Wash.) ran a 5:06.95 PR in the mile at Nebraska.

Tamara Diles (redshirt sophomore, Bellevue, Wash.) cleared an NCAA PQ of 4.00m/13-1 1/2 at WSU Open...no heights at both Nebraska and Pac-10 Invite.

Tamara Gulley (senior, San Jose, Calif.) ran a 60m PR of 7.60 at the Cougar Indoor...strained hip flexor at the Pac-10 Invite...will run only relay at MPSF Championships.

Angelita Green (senior, Long Beach, Calif.) leads team in 800m with season-best time of 2:13.05 at Cougar Indoor...also runs on 1600m relay.

Nicole Hatcher (sophomore, Kennewick, Wash.) clocked 60m dash PR of 7.61 at Vandal Indoor...won the 200 at the McDonald's Open with a PR of 24.84.

Monique Jessie (Compton, Calif.) finished sixth in the 400m dash at the Pac-10 Invite with a season-best time of 57.05 and ran the lead leg of the 1600m relay.

Robin Mikesh (sophomore, Sumner, Wash.) won WSU Open and at Vandal Indoor with high jump PR of 1.70m/5-7.

Marie Muai (junior, Tacoma, Wash.) bettered weight throw school record by two inches with a toss of 19.15m/62-10 for third place at the Pac-10 Invite...record distance was first attempt in competition.

Diana Pickler (sophomore, Sachse, Texas) reached NCAA PQ in the pentathlon at the Cougar Indoor with 3,734 points...top 60m hurdles time (8.49) run at Cougar Indoor...tied for fifth in the high jump with a lifetime-best of 1.67m/5-5 3/4 at the Pac-10 Invite.

Brandi Probasco-Canda (freshman, Portland, Ore.) ran top 400m time of 55.49 at Vandal Indoor...seventh in the 200m with PR time of 25.26 and ran the third leg of the 1600m relay at the Pac-10 Invite.

Shannon Rance (senior, Renton, Wash.) top shot put mark this season is 14.17m/46-6 at McDonald's Open.

Blessing Ufodiama (senior, Long Beach, Calif.) competed in both the long and triple jumps at the Pac-10 Invite...first time this year...finished seventh in the long jump (18-9 3/4) and second in the triple jump (40-9 3/4)...the previous week at Nebraska, Ufodiama set the school indoor triple jump record with an NCAA PQ mark of 12.89m/42-3 1/2.

4x400m Relay - squad of Monique Jessie, Angelita Green, Brandi, Probasco-Canda and Louise Akesson ran a season-best time of 3:44.61 for second place at the Pac-10 Invite...Probasco-Canda ran a 54.2 third leg...Akesson injured so Tamara Gulley will take her place.

COUGAR MEN'S LEADERS AND HIGHLIGHTS:
Martin Boston (sophomore, Hayward, Calif.) ran PRs in both sprints at the Pac-10 Invite...ran 60m dash PR 6.88 in the prelims, eighth-place 200m PR time of 22.01...bettered 60m time to 6.83 at Vandal Indoor.

Dione Cason (redshirt sophomore, Long Beach, Calif.) ran a 400m PR time of 48.03 for fourth at the Pac-10 Invite and runs lead leg of 1600m relay.

John Cassleman (freshman, Pullman, Wash.) improved 400m PR time to 48.13 at with eighth-place at Pac-10 Invite...runs third leg of 1600m relay...pulled quad muscle in practice third week in February and missed MPSF.

Tim Gehring (senior, Kettle Falls, Wash.) opened season with NCAA PQ and PR shot put throw of 18.74m/61-5 3/4 at WSU Open...also leads WSU in weight throw at 17.40m/57-1.

Pat Harrigan (redshirt sophomore, Reno, Nev.) cleared indoor PR in high jump of 2.09m/6-10 1/4 at the Husker Invite.

Matt Mason (junior, Marietta, Ga.) transferred to WSU at the start of spring semester...won Pac-10 Invite long jump with a Dempsey Indoor Facility record, school record and an NCAA Automatic Qualifying mark of 7.87m/25- 10...eclipsed 16-year old WSU indoor school long jump record of 25-9 1/4 set by Bill Ayears in 1988...ran an NCAA Provisional Qualifying time of 7.80 in the 60m hurdles at Husker Invite.

Paul Nicoletti (redshirt junior, Snohomish, Wash.) cleared PR height of 5.15m/16-10 3/4 in the pole vault at the Husker Invite.

Jamil Smith (sophomore, Palmdale, Calif.) season-best triple jump of 14.91m/48-11 came at Cougar Indoor...just 1/2 inch off PR mark.

David Turpin (senior, Oakhurst, Calif.) top heptathlon score of 4,984 points from Cougar Indoor.

Danny Wolf (redshirt sophomore, Reno, Nev.) ran a lifetime-best mile time of 4:06.00 at the Husker Invite...struggled at Pac-10 Invite 3000m with time of 8:16.01.

4x400m Relay - team of Cason, Lamarr Kirk (junior, Los Angeles), Qieed Ishmael (senior, Richmond, Va.), and Eric Nygard (redshirt sophomore, Wenatchee, Wash.) ran a season-best time of 3:12.79.
