LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Freshman Nick Ellis notched his third career top 25 finish and led the Washington State University men's golf team to a 12th place in the final tournament of the fall season, Tuesday.

The Cougars fired a 5-over par third round score of 289 and moved up one position in the final day of competition at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate on the par-71, 7,074-yard New Mexico State Golf Course. The team combined for a total score 873.

"During the last two rounds we were playing some quality golf and everyone on the team produced solid scores," WSU Head Coach Walt Williams said.

Ellis carded a final-round score of 1-over (72) and ended the two-day tournament with a total score 214 (+1). Ellis' second-round score of 68 and his third top 25 finish of the season led the team in both categories this fall.

Sophomore Kevin Tucker finished close behind in a tie for 29th, shooting a three-round total of 215 (+2). Sophomore Nick Grigsby powered his way up the leaderboard, moving up 19 positions with an even par 71. Grigsby finished the tournament with a total of 222.

"Nick Ellis had a great tournament, played well today and is getting comfortable out there in the number one spot on the team," Williams said. "Kevin Tucker had a great tournament as well and has continued to play consistent throughout the fall."

Freshman Xavier Dailly shot a 224 and sophomore Austin Hurt carded a 226 to round out the Cougar contingent.

"It will be nice to take a break but we are excited to get back out there and continue playing well in the spring," Williams said.

The Cougars get back in action and begin their spring season Feb. 24, when they travel to South Carolina for the Cutbert Cup.
