PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State freshman Shanelle Roberts (Tacoma, Wash.) shot a career-best 76 in the second round to help the Cougars finish third overall at the University of Oregon Invitational in Creswell, Ore.
Roberts, who was tied for 18th place after the first-round, charged back on the second day and finished ninth. Her previous best was 37th place at the BYU Invitational two weeks ago. Jennifer Dodd (79-82=160) fell from 11th on Monday to a 24th place tie with teammate Jenny Ballou (79-81=160). Freshman Tasha Browner fired a second-round 76 and moved up the leader board 23 spots on Tuesday to 26th.
Two University of California golfers earned the top individual honors. Vikki Laing (73-77=150) and Cheryl Lala (77-75=152) finished one-two on the leader board and helped the Golden Bears to the team title.
The host University of Oregon placed three golfers in the top-ten individually, but finished six strokes behind California to capture second. Washington State finished third, 16 strokes off the pace, and Idaho and Northern Arizona rounded out the top five.
