WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - The Washington State soccer team had 11 players earn Pacific-10 Conference All-Academic accolades, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced Thursday. Senior Megan Cecchini and junior Ashley Lara were named to the first team while the remaining nine Cougars were honorable mention honorees.

This is the third conference all-academic first team honor for Cecchini who has maintained a 3.83 GPA in biology. The Tualatin, Ore. native finished her Cougar career with 48 starts in 64 games, starting every match this season for WSU.

Lara (formerly Ashley Smith) was a Pac-10 All-Academic second team selection last year, in her first year of eligibility. The Las Cruces, N.M. native is a human nutrition and foods major and has maintained a 3.88 GPA while playing in 16 matches, making one start this season.

The Cougars had nine players selected to the honorable mention squad including seniors Cailan McCutchan, Sara Silver-Hill and co-captain Christie Spear. Carmen Anderson, Katie Hultin, Jennie Kunc, Alix Rustrum and Haley Thompson-Miller represented the junior class while sophomore Angela Fajardo earned the honor in her first year of eligibility.

To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall GPA and be either a starter or significant contributor.
