SALT LAKE CITY - Utah scored five times in the sixth inning and defeated Washington State 9-1 in nonconference baseball, Wednesday.
With the victory, Utah (14-22) snapped a four-game Washington State (19-17) winning streak. The Utes outhit the Cougars 14-8.
The Cougars got on the board first in the top of the second when sophomore Matt Argyropoulos launched a home run, his fourth of the season, over the left field wall.
Utah answered with three runs on four hits in the bottom half of the second and added another tally in the third against freshman Adam Conley (0-1).
In the sixth, a two-error out by the Cougars led to five unearned runs against the WSU bullpen as Utah put the game away.
The Cougars and continue their five-game road trip at USC. The three-game series with the Trojans begins, Friday at 6:30 p.m.
Washington State is 6-0-2 in series this season after winning the first game...Cougars dropped their first game in a dozen meetings with Mountain West Conference schools under Donnie Marbut.
