SOLVANG, Calif. -- The Washington State Men's Golf Team ended the first day of the OGIO Pacific Coast Intercollegiate in a three way tie for 10th after completing two rounds on the par-72, 6,830 yard Alisal River Golf Course.

In the lead for the Cougars is redshirt senior Jordan Madison who finished the first day with consecutive first and second round scores of 69. Madison currently sits tied for 12th with a score of 136 (-6). Only one stroke out of the top-25 is freshman golfer Austin Hurt, who shot a first round score of 69, tying his season low, followed by a second round of 72, leaving him with a first day total of 141 (-3).

"Madison played very solid in both rounds," said Head Golf Coach Walt Williams. "As a team we're playing better than we have most of the spring."

Senior Chris Collins finished only two strokes behind Hurt with a score of 143 (-1). In the second round of competition Collins matched his season low round score of 67, improving from a first round score of 76. Rounding out the roster for the Cougars is freshman Nick Grigsby, who finished the day with a score of 156 (+12).

Also golfing in the tournament is junior Jordan Mason who has been sidelined for a couple weeks with an ankle injury. Mason completed the first round of the tournament, accumulating a score of 70. Mason was unable to complete the second round of play after tweaking his already sore ankle while looking for a golf ball.

"Mason's ankle was already hurting him, so after he tweaked it looking for a ball he decided not to play the second round," Williams said. "He's going to try and play tomorrow, so if he stays healthy we should be able to finish strong."

As a team the Cougars sit in a tie for 10th with a score of 570. Currently leading the tournament is the University of Denver with a first day score of 546. The men will play the third round of the 54-hole tournament tomorrow with a scheduled start time of 8 a.m.
