EAST MEADOW, NEW YORK -- - Melissa Hubley, who qualified for the NCAA women's swimming championships in the 200 yard butterfly, finished 36 Friday in the 100 yard butterfly in a near personal record :56.10. The sophomore from Nova Scotia will compete Saturday in her specialty.
Unranked in the shorter butterfly competition, Hubley has the 23rd best time in the 200 yard event going into the meet at the Nassau Aquatic Center in East Meadow, New York. She also is the WSU school record holder in the 200 butterfly with a 2:00.36 time set two weeks ago in placing fifth at the Pacific-10 Conference championships.
Hubley's time Friday in the 100 butterfly was just off her best of :55.75, also set at the Pac-10 meet. To qualify for the finals in the 200 butterfly, Hubley will need to finish in the top 16.
