Ryan Witz Captures First Career Win at Duck Invitational

JUNCTION CITY, Ore.- Washington State senior Ryan Witz led the Cougars to a fourth place finish as he nabbed the individual title at the Duck Invitational held at the par-72, 6,807 yard Shadow Hills Country Club, March 27-28.

Witz flew through the first 36 holes with two under-par efforts, including a 4-under 68, which he followed up with an even par round to capture the title at 5-under 211. The Tucson, Ariz., native shares his title with Washington's Joe Panzeri who competed as an individual. Witz's finish marks his fifth top-10 effort of the year, and sixth career top 10.

Junior Chris Collins shot consecutive 1-under 71s in the final two rounds to climb 32 spots into a tie for 20th. The South Dakota native finished the tournament at 3-over 219. The top-25 effort is his seventh of the year and moves him into a tie for fifth on WSU's list of top-25 finishes in a season.

Sophomore Jordan Mason also crawled his way back into the top half of the field climbing 38 spots during the final 36 holes to finish tied for 31st. Mason's comeback was aided by a 2-under 70 in the second round followed up by a 1-over 73 to close the tournament.

Redshirt junior Jordan Madison and senior David Fern finished tied for 36th and 57th, respectively, rounding out the Cougar contingent. Madison finished with a 9-over 225 while Fern ended the tournament at 15-over 231.

The Cougars third round score of 293 landed the team in a tie for fourth place with Wyoming at 10-over 874. San Diego State won the team title with a convincing 12-stroke lead at 10-under 854. Nevada and Oregon State rounded out the top 3.

The Cougars return to action in sunny California at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate, April 3-4.
