SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga scored seven runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to come-from-behind and post an 11-8 victory over Washington State in nonconference baseball at the Patterson Baseball Complex, Tuesday.

"I'm just really disappointed," Cougar Head Coach Donnie Marbut said. "We played good enough to win for seven innings."

Gonzaga (17-14) trailed 8-4 entering the bottom of the eighth inning, and then loaded the bases on a bunt single, a hit batter and a walk. After Matt Way struck out Marcus McKimmy for the first out of the inning, Ryan Wiegand blasted his sixth home run of the season to tie the game 8-8.

Michael Ratigan (3-2) came in to relieve Way and gave up a double to Tyson Van Winkle and a triple to Michael Rhodes as the Bulldogs grabbed a 9-8 advantage. Mark Castellitto followed with a sacrifice fly to deep right field that was dropped by Scott Suttmeier for a three-base error. Bryan Winston capped the rally with a sacrifice fly.

The Cougars (18-13) built a 4-2 lead after three innings with two runs in the second and two more in the third. Suttmeier drilled his first home run of the season with a man aboard in the second. Jim Murphy and Jared Prince each delivered a sacrifice fly in the third.

After Gonzaga closed within 4-3, the Cougars added three runs in the seventh inning. Shea Vucinich, Travis Coulter and Paul Gran each singled to load the bases. Murphy greeted reliever Jeremy Stumetz (2-0) with a RBI-single to increase the WSU lead to 5-3. Prince followed with a ground ball that went through the legs of second baseman Evan Wells allowing two runs to score.

The Bulldogs picked up a run in the bottom of the seventh to make it 7-4 before Coulter hit a two-out solo home run in the top of the eighth to stretch the Cougars advantage to 8-4. Coulter finished 4-for-5 with three runs scored.

WSU hosts No. 2 Arizona State for a three-game series beginning at 5:30 p.m., Friday, April 11 at Bailey-Brayton Field.
