HOUSTON, Texas - Jordan Madison fired an opening round 70 to lead Washington State in the opening round Friday of the Border Olympics, hosted by the University of Houston.
Madison's two-under par outing leaves him just two strokes off the leaders entering Saturday's final round. WSU is in ninth with a team total 296 strokes after one day.
Texas-Arlington leads the 15-team tournament at 281, followed by Notre Dame and Baylor at 284, then Lamar and Vanderbilt at 285.
Madison was very consistent during his outing, taking 35 strokes on the front nine and the same for the last nine holes. Hurt also had a 35 for the front half of the 7,241-yard course.
The Cougar lineup included two seniors, Madison and Collins, and three freshmen, Hurt, Grigsby and Tucker.
