COUGS NEED TO GET BACK ON WIN-TRACK: Washington State volleyball hosts California and Stanford this Dads' Weekend on the WSU campus...in spite of WSU's 2-3 loss to Washington (15-3, 15-13, 13-15, 6-15, 13-15), the Cougs remain in fifth place...earlier this season, WSU lost at Stanford 0-3 and defeated Cal 3-2 in the Bay area...WSU received votes in the Oct. 20 USA Today AVCA Coaches Top 25 Poll for 47th.

WSU VOLLEYBALL TELEVISION SCHEDULE: The FOX Sports Net along with FOX Sports Northwest, will broadcast three WSU volleyball matches this season including two live matches: Oct. 23 vs. Washington, tape delayed to Oct. 24, 10:30 a.m. on FSNW; Oct. 30 vs. California, 7:30 p.m. LIVE on FOX Net; and Nov. 13 vs. UCLA, 7:30 p.m. LIVE on FOX Net...this week's FOX telecast announcers are Heather Cox and Jim Watson.

ABOUT THIS WEEK'S COUGAR OPPONENTS:

CALIFORNIA (6-14 overall* pending 10/27 at Sacramento State, 2-9 Pac-10): The Golden Bears are also on a two-match losing streak with losses over the weekend to Arizona (0-3) and Arizona State (2-3)...Brook Coulter, a junior outside hitter, leads the Pac-10 with 55 services aces (0.76 apg), is fourth with 3.10 digs per game, and tallies 3.04 kills per game for Cal...Alicia Perry, sophomore OH, brings a 3.00 kpg average and a 2.93 digs per game average (sixth in Pac-10)...Cal's interim coach is Lee Maes (3-5), who took over the program on Oct. 2 when eighth-year coach Sue Woodstra resigned...game scores in Berkeley Oct. 4 were WSU 15-5, 14-16, 9-15, 15-5, 15-9...WSU leads the series 15-10 and has won the past 13 meetings.

STANFORD (17-2 overall, 11-0 Pac-10): The Cardinal appears to be well on its way to another undefeated Pac-10 Championship season...Stanford's losses are to #10 UC Santa Barbara and #5 Nebraska in the first week of the season...Stanford has 36 consecutive Pac-10 wins...their last conference loss came Sunday, Oct. 27 in Pullman - a 3-1 win by WSU...junior All-American Kerri Walsh leads the team with 3.90 kpg (9th Pac-10) and 3.12 dpg (third Pac-10)...sophomre Jennifer Detmer has a 1.69 blocks per game average (third in Pac-10)...coach Don Shaw has a 399-65 record in 15 years at Stanford...SU leads the series 24-1

ABOUT THE COUGAR COACHES: Cindy Fredrick has a 192-121 record in her 10th season at WSU (.613)Fredrick's overall collegiate record in her 14th season is 278-181 (.606)...assisting Fredrick is her husband, Dr. Mashallah Farokhmanesh (tenth year), and Shannon Hoyt (first year).

ABOUT THE COUGARS:

Jennifer Stinson (6-1, senior, MB, Davenport, Wash.) dislocated her left ankle in practice 10/22 - will be in soft cast for 10 days and then re-evaluated...leads WSU and is seventh in the Pac-10 with 4.22 kills per game...her 1.48 blocks per game is fourth in Pac-10, 20th nationallyhas a .318 hitting percentage (eighth in Pac-10)...became the seventh Cougar in school history to nail 1000 kills in a career with 16 at UCLA - career total 1,006 kills...MVP of the Cougar Challenge Tournament.

Wendy Rouse (6-3, senior, LS, Reno, Nev.) fifth-year seniormoved into Stinson's MB spot for Washington match...tallied season-best six blocks...Rouse is second on team with 3.19 kills per game and third with 2.36 digs per gamehad match-high and career-best 21 kills in USC upset win...hit .480 vs. Long Beach State and .370 in five-game win at Cal...named to Cougar Challenge All-Tournament team.

Colleen Smith (6-6, sophomore, RS, Albuquerque, NM) currently coming off the bench to replace Lucie in the Cougar lineupSmith averages 2.07 kills per game and 0.82 blocks per game...hit .400 against Cal.

Samantha Spink (5-9, senior Setter, Coeur d'Alene, Id.) 2.53 digs per game is second on team and 0.92 blocks per game is third...tallies 11.59 assists per game.her 22 digs against Gonzaga is a career-best...she had six blocks against Utah, Arizona State and #8 USC...very tough kid who plays through numerous injuries.

Kim Kleven (senior, DS, Spokane, Wash.) had a career-high 13 digs at Cal and 11 digs against #2 Long Beach State...became part of the Cougar starting six when Pac-10 competition started...drilled three services aces at Cal and next match versus Oregon.

Alicia Erickson (6-4, freshman, middle/outside hitter, Henderson, Nev.) averaging 1.21 blocks per game - tenth in Pac-10...had nine blocks at Idaho...tallied an impressive five blocks against #2 Long Beach State and stopped eight kills at the net against Arizona State...in five games at UW, had 6 kills in 11 attacks with no errors for .545 Hpct...also hit .500 at Cal...only plays front row as she subs in for DS starter, Kleven.

Joy Sperry (6-1, junior LS, Wallace, Id.) played match of her life at USC with 16 kills, 15 digs...also had 14 kills, .414 hpct, 13 digs and five blocks vs. Oregon...career-high 22 digs vs. Washington...hitting arm elbow taped for sensitive Ulnar nerve.

Lucie Vratnickova (6-1, senior, OH, Czech Republic) last six matches started in front row in place of Colleen Smith...had career-highs of three service aces and 10 digs against Oregon...career-high seven kills at Stanford.

Missy Blackshire (5-10, freshman OH, Spokane, Wash.) subs in for Joy Sperry...saw quality playing time in the win against Arizona State when she played all four games with 3 kills, a service ace, one block and 7 digs.

Kristen Johnson (5-11, freshman, OH, Olympia, Wash.) subbed in at right side in Washington match when Rouse moved into Stinson's MB spot...tallied 17 kills and 11 digs.
