PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State junior Kim Welch is ranked ninth on the Top 50 female players to watch list for the 2003-04 season by GolfWorld magazine in its Sept. 12 issue. Welch has also been selected as a Preseason All-American by Golfweek magazine.
This is not the first national honor the Sacramento, Calif., native has received. Welch has been named College Player of the Week by GolfWorld in each of the past two seasons.
Welch had an amazing 2002-03 season with nine Top 10 finishes, including a fifth place finish at the NCAA Championships and second place effort at the NCAA West Regional. As a result of her performance at the national championships, Welch was named a National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) All-American. Welch, who holds the school record with 15 career top 10 finishes, was also named an All-Pac-10 second team selection. She finished her season with 12 top 25 finishes, along with being ranked No. 40 by Golfstat in its final rankings.
Welch and the rest of the women's golf team is currently playing at the Northwest Invitational at Sunriver, Ore.
