WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Washington State's Taylor Ard has been named the Pacific-10 Conference Player of the Week for May 16-22, conference commissioner Larry Scott announced, Monday.

A native of Vancouver, Wash., Ard batted .500 (12-for-24) with nine extra-base hits (six doubles, three home runs), drove in 11 runs and scored six in six games for the Cougars. His exploits moved him into a tie for the Pac-10 lead in home runs with eight and he now owns a conference-best 50 RBI. The redshirt-sophomore hit safely in all-six games, including five multiple-hit outings.

In addition, Ard collected at least one RBI and one extra-base hit in each game. He capped his week with a 3-for-3 day, including a ninth inning single that started a two-run rally in Washington State's 8-7 come-from-behind win over Oregon.

Ard began the week going 2-for-4 with a double, home run and two RBI against Arizona, Monday. He was 3-for-9 in a doubleheader against Portland, Tuesday, with a double in the opener and a pair of home runs in the nightcap which was won by the Cougars 11-5. Ard was 2-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI in the Cougars' 12-6 victory over Oregon, Friday and 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI against the Ducks, Saturday.

This is the first Pac-10 Player of the Week award for Ard and the 64th all-time for the Cougars.
