Final Stats

Washington State notched 12 hits, but USC garnered 20 in a 13-7 win over the host Cougars Friday night in a Pacific-10 Conference baseball game at Bailey-Brayton Field.

WSU starter Eddie Bonine (6-5) went five innings, allowing nine runs in his first loss since March 22. Anthony Reyes (2-0) notched the win for the Trojans and Cory Campos recorded his second save of the season.

The Cougars (14-21 overall, 2-8 in the Pac-10) were led by Justin Hart and Wes Falkenborg, each collecting three hits and driving in three runs. Jon Baeder and Derek Bruce had two hits apiece. USC (22-16, 7-3) scored in every inning except the eighth and was led by Alberto Concepcion's 4-for-6, four-RBI day. Bill Peavey was 5-for-5 with three doubles for the Trojans.

WSU trailed 10-7 after six innings, before allowing USC to score a run in the seventh and two in the ninth. Campos did not allow the Cougars a run over the game's final three-plus innings to notch the save.

The Cougars trailed 3-0 after the top of the first, before tallying two runs in the bottom of the frame. Bookie Gates' single scored Evan Hecker and Falkenborg's single to centerfield plated Hart to cut the Trojan lead to 3-2.

USC tacked on another run in the second, answered by the Cougars in their half of the inning with an RBI ground-out by Hart that scored Collin Henderson, cutting the USC lead to 4-3.

The Trojans then added runs in the third and fourth and posted a three-run fifth to take a 9-3 lead. The Cougars cut the USC advantage to 9-5 with a two-run fifth, thanks to Falkenborg's two-RBI single with the bases loaded that brought home Hart and Hecker.

After another USC run in the sixth made it 10-5, WSU once again struck with the bases loaded. This time, Hart singled to center field to score Bruce and Baeder to bring the Cougars to within three, 10-7.

But Campos allowed just four hits and no runs the final 3 2/3 innings to wrap-up the game for the Trojans.

The two teams meet again Saturday afternoon. First pitch at Bailey-Brayton Field is scheduled for 1 p.m.
