SAN DIEGO - The Washington State Cougars fell to the San Diego State Aztecs, 66-57, in non-conference women's basketball action, Tuesday at Viejas Arena.
After an exchange of leads in the game's early stages, the Aztecs (5-5) used an 8-0 run to open a 19-10 advantage at the 12:06 mark of the first half. On several occasions, WSU was able to close to within five only to have San Diego State extend its lead to double-figures at 36-25 at the half.
After WSU opened the second half with a bucket, San Diego State went on a 12-0 run to take a 48-27 lead nearly four minutes into the half. However, the Cougars chipped away at their deficit and outscored the Aztecs 19-7 to close the gap to 55-46 with 7:34 remaining.
The Aztecs extended its lead back to double figures and WSU closed to within single-digits at 61-52 with 2:40 remaining and the final scoring margin.
The Cougars shot 26-of-65 (40 percent) from the field while SDSU was 27-66 (40.9 percent) including 16-of-32 in the first half.
With three blocks, Noyes increased her career total in that category to 82, and surpassed Cassandra Overby (1980-84) for fourth place on the school's all-time list in that category.
The game versus San Diego State marked WSU's final non-conference game of the season. The Cougars return to action for their Pac-10 opener vs. USC, Friday, Dec. 31 at Beasley Coliseum. Tip is at 1 p.m.
