What's Happening: The Washington State women's golf team travels to Stanford, Calif. to compete in the Stanford Pepsi Intercollegiate, Oct. 15-17...the 54-hole, three-day tournament will be played at the par-72, 6,168-yard Stanford Golf Course, with 18 holes being played each day...this is the final tournament of the fall season for the Cougars.
The Field: The 18-team field features nine teams ranked in Golfstat's top-25: Washington (2), UCLA (6), Arizona State (9), New Mexico (10), Texas (11), Pepperdine (16), Stanford (20), California (21) and Tulsa (24). Also competing are Vanderbilt (29), Arizona (31), Oregon (34), UNLV (38), Texas Tech (46), San Jose State (48), Oregon State (63), New Mexico State (76)...WSU is No. 39 in the Golfstat rankings.
Top Eight Kostina: Junior Anastasia Kostina is ranked No. 30 on Golfweek's women's individual rankings...Kostina has finished in the top-eight in each of this season's first three tournaments...Kostina began the season with a sixth place effort at the Notre Dame Invitational...that was followed up with an eighth place performance at the NCAA Fall Preview and a third place effort at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational.
Welch No. 3 Player to Watch: GolfWorld magazine named Washington State two-time All-American Kim Welch the No. 3 golfer on its 2004-05 "Top 50 Players to Watch" list in its Sept. 3 issue....the senior from Sacramento, Calif., was the topic of a feature story in the magazine...Welch made her second career appearance on the list...she was ranked as the No. 9 Player to Watch at the beginning of the 2003-04 season......last year, Welch finished tied for sixth at the Stanford Pepsi Intercollegiate.
