BROOKINGS, SD - The Washington State University volleyball team moved to a 3-0 record with a 31-29, 30-25, 30-21 win over Weber State Saturday afternoon at the South Dakota State Jackrabbit Kickoff Tournament at Frost Arena on the SDSU campus.
Cougar sophomore Brittany Johnson led all players with 14 kills as the Cougars hit a paltry .178. WSU freshman setter Corina Beyer had 36 assists and Tara West added three service aces and five blocks. Freshman Kelly Hyder had a match-high 17 digs and Jalen Pendon added 16 digs.
Brittney Bisaillon and Kolbie Murphey combined for 16 kills to lead Weber State (0-3), which was held to a .065 team hitting percentage. Bisaillon also had a team-high four blocks while Leah Burmeister had 15 digs.
"As a team we did not play very clean today. We were a little bit sluggish but we maintained our composure and won a match when we weren't playing our best volleyball but were still able to win anyway," Cougar Head Coach Brian Heffernan said. "From that standpoint, it feels good to know that even on our best night, if we just keep fighting and stay focused on the things we can do, we can still be very competitive and win matches."
